Canada 2015

We had a ball in Canada in 2015, as these photos from the Calgary Folk Club show. The Calgary Herald reviewed the show and said:

“You’ve probably heard that old saying about judging a book by its cover? Go ahead and make that mistake when you are about experience Hat Fitz & Cara Robinson live onstage. Looking a bit like a Son of Anarchy that has mugged Crocodile Dundee for his outback hat, Fitz takes that analogy one step further with a howling, growling voice that almost makes Tom Waits sound like a soprano.

Yet on his steel guitar, and from those hearty vocals come stories in songs like Eliza Blue, Wiley Ways, and Tarni Lee – and you are an instant fan, like the ones he has been gathering around the world for years now.

Similarly, Cara Robinson might appear innocent enough, and then she gets behind her drum kit, ever so slightly tilts her head back, parts her lips, and a soulful gospel inspiration like Power raises that revival tent roof.

Their two voices together are something you could literally listen to for hours. Certainly not as short a time as we had last night, but for their first trip touring through Canada, I think they found a number of new fans for their own version of the blues.”

Interviewer and photographer Dan St Yves also managed to catch us in bed – literally – as part of this preview interview for the show. If you have time, its a revealing watch!
