Aussie Folk Stars Hat Fitz and Cara release ‘LIVE At The Couch Sessions’

Rootsy Australian duo “pack more energy, emotion and sheer musical exuberance into one song than most manage in a whole career”

Bridging the gap between Bluegrass, Trad Folk and The Blues, Australia’s Hat Fitz and Cara have spent 15 years travelling and elevating the mood at festivals and venues all over the world. The husband and wife duo are delighted to announce the next chapter of their stellar career together with the release of their sixth album ‘At The Couch Sessions’.

Recorded in the cozy confines of their hinterland home in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, this new recording captures the warmth, raw energy, and unfiltered authenticity that has characterised this artist since they first got the bright idea to combine Hat Fitz’s hill country blues with Cara’s huge voice and Irish sense of humour.

Joined by the extraordinary Andrew ‘The Mouse’ Szumowski on organ, and captured by expert engineers of Paulie B and Steve from Yama Nui Studios, the album unfolds like a heartfelt conversation between friends.

The accompanying video content was filmed by Justin Brown of Brown Dog Productions, and brings the audience even closer to the intimate experience of master musicians creating in their living room.

At The Couch Sessions Live is available wherever good music is streamed, and on CD from their shop.

Memphis Blues Challenge

Cara Robinson said: “We’re so chuffed to have won the Memphis Blues Challenge and be given the opportunity to represent Australia in Memphis in January 2015!”

HFC_memphis

Every year in late January literally hundreds of blues artists from around the world in the form of bands, duos and solo performers converge on the traditional ‘Home of the Blues’ Memphis, TN, USA to take part in the biggest blues event in the world – the International Blues Challenge (IBC) run by THE Blues Foundation.
On August 24th the Blues Association of South East Queensland (BASEQ) held the ‘Memphis Challenge’ where six blues acts chosen out of 100 applicants performed in front of a panel of judges to see who would be selected to represent us in Memphis at the January 2015 International Blues Challenge.
Hat Fitz & Cara are so pleased to have won the competition, this will provide a huge opportunity for BASEQ’s representative to not only visit Memphis ‘the Home of the Blues’, but also put what they do in front of an international audience including industry representatives.

Live review at Ingolstadt Blues Festival Germany

Thanks to Sandra Isabel Knobloch for this review of the Ingolstadt show in the local paper:

Overflowing energy and in-depth emotion form the basis for a Hat Fitz and Cara concert, a congenial duo who guest at Ingolstadt Bluesfest yet it seems like a visit from old friends.
Hat Fitz and Cara Robinson have audible and visible pleasure in their music, and ensure exuberant mood. Hat Fitz is so quaint like his guitar, he sits with a long beard and outback hat casually on the stage and interprets their own new songs.
The two have a really original sound: Cara Robinson presents herself in an (old) fashionable dress on a motley drumkit and really lets rip. Combining simple grooves with her haunting voice makes each number a pleasure. In particular, the pieces of Figures such as Bessie Smith, the “Empress of the Blues”

All the better that Fitz and Robinson with their new disc, “Do Tell” honours the New World and even the audience in the gospel style “Power” could sing along animatedly. Whether quiet ballad, powerful blues stomp or faster Shuffle: Hat Fitz and Cara Robinson inspired their listeners from the first to the last minute!
